Why Pixel tracking breaks so often
The Meta Pixel is a small piece of JavaScript that runs in your visitor's browser. That browser can block it: iPhone privacy features, ad blockers, slow mobile connections and in-app browsers all stop events from reaching Facebook. On top of that, many Bangladeshi online shops have their Pixel installed several times by different plugins, themes and developers, which creates duplicates or broken events.
The result is bad data, and Facebook's ad algorithm is only as good as the data you send it. When it can't see who buys, it shows your ads to people who only click.
Common Pixel problems I fix
- Purchase event missing or firing on the wrong page, for example on the cart page or every time the thank-you page is refreshed.
- Wrong or missing value and currency, so ROAS and cost per purchase are meaningless.
- Duplicate events from two plugins, or from Pixel and Conversions API without deduplication.
- Low Event Match Quality because no customer information (hashed email or phone) is sent.
- Cash-on-delivery stores that need to track confirmed orders, not just form submissions.
- Landing pages and Messenger/WhatsApp funnels with no conversion tracking at all.
Pixel vs Conversions API
| Meta Pixel (browser) | Conversions API (server) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Visitor's browser | Your website's server |
| Blocked by ad blockers / iOS | Often | No |
| Best for | Page views, on-site behaviour | Purchases and leads you must not miss |
| Recommended setup | Both together, with deduplication | Both together, with deduplication |
Using both, with the same event ID so Facebook can remove duplicates, is Meta's own recommendation. It is also the foundation of server-side tracking.
What changes after the fix
You see reported purchases that match your real orders much more closely, campaigns optimise towards actual buyers, and you can finally compare ad sets and creatives with confidence. Many store owners also discover that some campaigns they thought were profitable were not, and the other way around.
Works with your platform
WooCommerce, Shopify, custom PHP or Laravel stores, Next.js shops and simple landing pages. If you take orders on WhatsApp or Messenger, I set up lead and order tracking that fits that process too.
